Smooth polyurethane flooring for business premises
Ecoflor installs resilient polyurethane resin flooring for commercial and industrial projects across the UK. A smooth PU finish can be considered where the appearance, feel and day-to-day use of a floor matter, with the specification selected around your premises.

What is resilient polyurethane flooring?
Resilient polyurethane flooring is a resin floor finish designed to provide a degree of flexibility. Self-smoothing systems create a continuous finish over a suitably prepared base. The amount of resilience, installed thickness and surface performance depend on the selected product and complete system build-up.
Colour, finish and cleaning requirements should be considered alongside traffic and loading. Necessary movement joints and construction details must still be accommodated.
Choosing between smooth PU and polyurethane screed
Polyurethane flooring describes several different types of system. A smooth resilient finish should not be assumed to offer the same performance as a heavy-duty polyurethane resin screed.
If your floor will face hot washdowns, steam cleaning, aggressive chemicals or heavy industrial loads, provide those details before selection. The proposed system, thickness and finish need to be checked against the manufacturer’s current technical information.

Tell us how the floor will be used
- Traffic and loading: pedestrian use, trolleys, equipment and any concentrated loads.
- Finish: desired colour, appearance and surface texture.
- Cleaning and spills: cleaning products, water exposure and process chemicals.
- Operational needs: installation dates, access arrangements and available downtime.
- Existing floor: substrate type, current coatings, visible damage and known moisture issues.
Where slip resistance, acoustic performance or other measured properties are required, provide the project criteria so evidence can be checked for the proposed system. A smooth appearance alone does not establish suitability for a wet area.

Preparation and installation
The existing base needs assessment before the installation method is agreed. Preparation, repairs and priming depend on its condition and the chosen floor system. See our floor preparation services.
The programme must allow for application and curing as well as preparation. Agree when pedestrians, equipment and cleaning operations can return; these may have different waiting periods.
Commercial polyurethane flooring questions
Is polyurethane better than epoxy?
The choice depends on the particular systems and the demands of your premises. Compare the required finish, loading, flexibility, cleaning and exposure rather than selecting by resin type alone.
Can this floor be steam cleaned?
Do not assume a smooth resilient PU system is suitable for steam cleaning. Confirm the required temperatures and method against the proposed manufacturer’s specification before installation.
What affects the price?
Floor area, preparation, repairs, system build-up, edge details and site access affect the quotation. Drawings, photographs and your preferred programme help us assess the scope.
How is the floor maintained?
Follow the selected manufacturer’s cleaning instructions, use compatible products and attend to spills and damage. Agree a maintenance routine that suits the finish and the way the area operates.
