A commercial aeroplane is undergoing maintenance in a large, well-lit hangar. Technicians and equipment are positioned around the aircraft, and both engines are exposed.

Aircraft Hangar Flooring

Aircraft hangar floor coatings and refurbishment

Ecoflor installs resin flooring for aircraft hangars and aviation maintenance premises. The right specification starts with the existing concrete, aircraft and equipment movements, maintenance activities and available installation window.

Specify the floor around hangar operations

Provide aircraft and ground-support equipment loads, wheel types, turning areas and maintenance activities. The structural capacity of the slab and the performance of the surface finish are separate considerations; a coating should not be treated as a solution to inadequate structural capacity.

Discuss the required finish, cleaning routine, pedestrian routes and line marking. Texture and appearance should be selected around actual use, including areas where fluids may reach the floor.

Epoxy coatings and other resin systems

Epoxy floor coatings and other industrial resin systems can be considered for hangar refurbishment or new construction. System choice depends on the substrate and specified performance, rather than the resin name alone.

Skydrol and aviation fluid resistance

If resistance to Skydrol, fuel, oils or cleaning chemicals is required, identify the exact substances and exposure conditions. Obtain product-specific resistance information for the proposed system before agreeing the specification. A general claim of chemical resistance does not establish suitability for every aviation fluid.

Preparation of existing hangar floors

Existing coatings, oil contamination, moisture, cracks and joints need assessment. Our floor preparation service forms part of the installation, with removal and repairs included where the substrate requires them. Retaining an existing coating depends on its condition, adhesion and compatibility.

Programme and installation costs

The quotation depends on floor area, preparation, repairs, the selected system, markings and access. Share the period available for preparation, application and curing, together with aircraft relocation and operational restrictions. Phased work can be assessed against the site layout and programme.

Aircraft hangar flooring questions

Can a hangar floor be recoated?

It may be possible after assessment. Unsound coatings, contamination or substrate damage can require removal and repairs before the new system is applied.

How quickly can the hangar return to use?

The programme depends on the system, conditions and intended traffic. Agree the return-to-service requirements before installation; there is no single curing time for every hangar floor.

What should I send for a quote?

Include the location, area in square metres, plans or photographs, existing floor condition, traffic and loading, chemical requirements and preferred work dates.
