Floor Grinding for Automation: Robot Automated Warehousing

Concrete floor grinding for warehouse automation projects

Ecoflor provides concrete floor grinding and preparation for automated warehouse projects. We review floor survey information and the equipment supplier’s requirements to discuss the scope of correction, preparation and any subsequent finish.

Start with the equipment specification

Projects using autonomous mobile robots (AMRs), automated guided vehicles (AGVs) or automated storage and retrieval systems (ASRS) need the relevant floor requirements defined by the equipment supplier and project team. Provide the operating routes, loading, surface requirements and acceptance criteria.

Flatness, levelness, joints and the final surface finish should be considered separately in the brief. There is no single floor tolerance that can be assumed suitable for every automation system.

Survey the floor and define the correction

Survey information helps identify the areas requiring work. Share the measurement method, results and reference criteria, together with drawings showing the equipment routes and installation layout. Existing joints, cracks, coatings and local damage also need review.

Grinding removes material; it is not the same as filling low areas. Where other correction or repair is required, the scope may include floor levelling or warehouse floor repairs, subject to the project requirements.

Agree the grinding and preparation method

Our concrete floor grinding service can be discussed around the survey, access and substrate. The method and extent of removal need to suit the floor and agreed correction, with any structural constraints considered by the project team.

Identify requirements for managing dust, protecting stock and equipment, and separating work from operational areas. These arrangements form part of planning the installation programme.

Check the final surface and handover requirements

Agree the post-work measurement and acceptance process before work starts. Any coating or treatment applied after grinding should also be considered against the equipment supplier’s required final surface. Discuss industrial resin finishes only where they fit the specification.

Allow time for the planned checks, repairs, subsequent finishes and return to service. Grinding alone should not be presented as a guarantee of robot performance or system commissioning.

Automated warehouse flooring questions

Can you work to our robot supplier’s tolerances?

Send the specification, measurement method and survey results for review. The team can assess the proposed work and clarify the acceptance requirements before quoting.

Will grinding correct every uneven floor?

No. Suitability depends on the existing condition, required correction and permitted removal. Low areas or damaged concrete may need a different treatment.

Can the warehouse remain operational?

Phasing depends on access, work-zone separation and the planned equipment routes. Share operational restrictions and available closures at the outset.

What information is needed for a price?

Provide the location, area, drawings, survey, equipment specification, existing finish and preferred programme. Further site assessment may be required.
