Match the floor to the production zone
Wet processing, dry packing, cooking, bottling and storage can need different specifications. Tell us about water, fats, sugars, oils and other substances that may reach the floor, together with pedestrian traffic, pallet trucks and equipment loads.
Cleaning temperatures, chemicals and frequency also matter. The proposed system should be checked against these actual conditions, including hot discharge or steam cleaning where relevant.
Choose a suitable resin system
Polyurethane screed flooring can be considered for demanding food-production environments, with the product and thickness selected for the project. Other resin finishes may suit areas with different operating conditions.
Our hygienic flooring systems page explains further considerations for cleaning and wet areas. Any required certification or test performance must be supported by evidence for the specified product.
Texture, cleaning and drainage details
The surface texture needs to balance the required grip with the cleaning method. Discuss footwear, water and likely contamination when selecting the finish. A floor contributes to the cleaning programme but does not create a bacteria-free environment on its own.
Coving, joints, drainage interfaces and transitions should be coordinated with the surrounding construction and equipment. Share drainage layouts and any required falls so those details can be considered before installation.
Preparation and shutdown planning
Existing floors need assessment for contamination, moisture, damage and compatibility. Our floor preparation service forms part of the installation plan, with repairs and treatment of unsound material included where needed.
Tell us how long the area can be taken out of service and whether adjacent production will continue. The programme must allow for preparation, application and curing before cleaning and production resume.
Food factory flooring questions
Can one system be used throughout the factory?
Possibly, but the requirements of each zone should be assessed. Differences in temperature, moisture, loading and cleaning can call for different finishes or build-ups.
Can you refurbish an existing production floor?
The existing substrate and finish need assessment first. Removal, repairs or additional preparation may be required before a compatible new system is installed.
What affects the installation cost?
Area, preparation, repairs, selected system, coving, drainage details and access affect the quotation. Plans and photographs help establish the scope; a site assessment may be needed.
What information helps you specify the floor?
Send the process description, floor area, traffic and loads, cleaning products and temperatures, drainage layout and shutdown window. Include any project-specific performance requirements.
