Epoxy Flooring for Commercial & Industrial Premises

Epoxy flooring for commercial and industrial concrete floors

Ecoflor prepares and installs epoxy resin flooring for warehouses, manufacturing facilities, workshops and commercial premises. Options range from floor coatings to thicker self-smoothing systems and aggregate-filled screeds, selected for the condition of your concrete and the demands of your operation.

What is epoxy flooring?

Epoxy flooring uses resin and hardener components that cure to form a bonded finish over a prepared base. The formulation, thickness, aggregate and topcoat determine the characteristics of the finished system.

A floor coating and a heavy-duty screed serve different purposes. Choose the complete system around traffic, cleaning, chemical exposure, appearance and the available installation window.

Epoxy floor coatings

  • Water-based coatings: floor sealers and coloured finishes for suitable concrete substrates.
  • High-build epoxy coatings: protective finishes with smooth or textured options, depending on the specification.
  • Floor painting and textured coatings: discuss grip requirements alongside cleaning methods and likely contamination.
  • Decorative flake finishes: coloured flakes incorporated into a coating system and sealed with a compatible finish.

Self-smoothing floors and epoxy screeds

Flow-applied epoxy flooring provides a self-smoothing resin finish. Required thickness, substrate tolerances and the desired appearance should be agreed before installation.

Epoxy quartz screeds combine resin with aggregate for a thicker floor system. Aggregate and sealing choices influence texture, appearance and cleaning requirements. Mortar-style epoxy screeds can also be considered where the project calls for a trowel-applied construction.

For specialist containment below raised access floors, see our epoxy modified waterproofing service. This requires a dedicated specification for the area and its details.

Specify the floor around your operation

Provide details of forklift movements, wheeled equipment, point loads, impact and pedestrian routes. For chemical exposure, identify the substances, concentrations, temperatures and likely contact times so compatibility can be reviewed against product information.

Where electrostatic control, hygiene or other specialist performance is required, include the applicable project specification. A general-purpose epoxy finish should not be assumed to meet every specialist requirement.

Concrete preparation and repairs

Correct floor preparation is central to a successful installation. Ecoflor assesses the base for moisture, contamination, damage and existing coatings before agreeing preparation, repairs and any levelling work.

Methods may include vacuum-controlled diamond grinding, captive shot blasting or planing, depending on the substrate and material to be removed. Dust control, access and separation from ongoing operations form part of the site plan.

Cracks, movement joints and transitions need appropriate treatment. A resin finish should not be relied on to resolve underlying structural movement.

Decorative and comfort flooring alternatives

For commercial interiors where aggregate patterns are part of the design, explore liquid terrazzo flooring. Where comfort underfoot is a priority, compare liquid vinyl and polyurethane comfort flooring. Discuss the intended use and required performance before selecting a system.

Colours and finishes

Discuss standard colours, samples and any corporate colour references with Ecoflor. Availability, matching and additional costs depend on the selected system. Choose gloss level and texture alongside practical cleaning and traffic needs.

Epoxy flooring questions

How long does installation take?

Area, preparation, repairs, number of layers and curing conditions affect the programme. Pedestrian access, vehicle traffic and full chemical exposure may require different waiting periods. Ecoflor will discuss the selected system’s requirements against your reopening date.

Can work be carried out in phases?

Phasing may be possible where access and the operating environment allow it. Ventilation, odour sensitivity, adjacent processes and safe separation need review before agreeing work in an occupied facility.

How much does epoxy flooring cost?

Cost depends on area, base condition, preparation, repairs, system thickness, finish and access. Send plans and photographs for a quotation based on the actual scope.

How long will the floor last?

Service life depends on the specified system, installation, traffic, exposure and maintenance. Follow the cleaning instructions and address damage promptly; there is no single lifespan for every epoxy floor.

What limitations should be considered?

Surface grip, UV exposure, temperature and substrate movement can influence suitability. Discuss these conditions before selection. Where another finish better matches the brief, compare polyurethane flooring and polished concrete.

Discuss your epoxy flooring project

Send your commercial or industrial flooring brief to Ecoflor. Include floor area, location, existing condition, traffic, cleaning and chemical exposure, preferred finish and target dates so we can discuss preparation and installation together.
