Resin Bound Gravel

Resin bound gravel surfacing for commercial projects

Ecoflor installs resin bound gravel for commercial customers, building contractors and developers. Combining natural stone aggregate with resin creates a continuous decorative surface for external paths, entrance areas, public spaces and commercial landscaping.

What is resin bound gravel?

Resin bound gravel is made by mixing aggregate with resin before laying the mixture onto a prepared base. The stones are held within the finished surface, giving a natural aggregate appearance without the movement associated with loose gravel.

The aggregate blend, resin specification and installation depth should be selected together for the intended traffic and exposure. Discuss samples and the required finish with Ecoflor before agreeing the specification.

Commercial paths, entrances and landscaped areas

Resin bound surfacing can be considered for pedestrian routes, commercial entrances, dealership areas and public spaces. Tell us whether the area is pedestrian-only or needs to accommodate vehicles, deliveries or maintenance equipment.

Include accessibility requirements, turning areas, edges and transitions in the brief. These details help determine whether the proposed surface and underlying construction suit the project. For other vehicle-area finishes, explore our car park flooring systems.

Permeability, drainage and base preparation

A permeable resin bound surface needs a compatible base and drainage arrangement to allow water to pass through the complete construction. The surface finish alone does not establish that a project meets its sustainable drainage requirements.

Share the drainage design, existing levels and any areas of standing water. Existing concrete or asphalt may be suitable, subject to assessment of its condition, compatibility and the proposed drainage route.

Preparation includes reviewing damage, movement and contamination. Necessary repairs, edge restraints and transitions should be included in the installation scope before work begins.

Aggregate colours and installation programme

Choose stone colours and blends to complement the surrounding landscape and building. Review samples alongside the intended use, cleaning arrangements and exposure; the selected resin and aggregate need to suit those conditions.

Site access, base preparation, weather and curing requirements affect the programme. Provide your target opening date and any restrictions on closing paths or entrances so installation can be planned around the site.

Resin bound gravel questions

How is resin bound different from resin bonded gravel?

Resin bound systems mix the aggregate with resin before laying. Resin bonded systems apply aggregate onto a resin layer. They are different specifications with different surface and drainage characteristics. This page focuses on resin bound installation.

Can resin bound gravel take vehicle traffic?

Suitability depends on the complete construction and intended loads. Provide vehicle types, expected movements and turning locations so the base and surfacing can be assessed together.

What affects the cost?

Area, base condition, repairs, aggregate selection, resin system, edges, drainage and site access all affect the quotation. Plans and photographs help Ecoflor define the scope.

What maintenance is required?

Follow the cleaning instructions for the installed system. Remove debris, keep drainage routes clear and inspect the surface for damage. Resin bound gravel still needs routine care.
