The Top Varieties of Polyurethane Floor Systems to Consider

Which polyurethane floor system suits your project?

Polyurethane flooring includes heavy-duty resin screeds, smooth finishes, comfort systems and coatings. These are different constructions with different intended uses. Start with the operating requirements and compare the complete system, rather than treating every polyurethane finish as interchangeable.

Ecoflor supplies and installs polyurethane flooring for commercial and industrial premises. We do not undertake domestic installations. Send your project brief with the postcode, approximate area, existing floor condition and preferred programme.

Polyurethane resin screeds for industrial use

Discuss polyurethane resin screeds for production and industrial areas. Provide equipment loads, traffic, impacts, chemical exposure and cleaning temperatures so the proposed construction can be reviewed against the operating conditions.

Include drains, joints and any coving requirements in the specification. Request product evidence for demanding temperature or cleaning exposure at the proposed thickness; a general description of polyurethane is not enough to establish suitability.

Smooth polyurethane flooring

Smooth polyurethane flooring is an option to discuss where a smooth resin finish suits the commercial or industrial brief. Agree appearance, traffic requirements and cleaning alongside substrate preparation.

A self-smoothing finish does not remove the need to assess the floor’s levels, condition and joints. Identify any levelling or repair work separately in the quotation.

Comfort resin flooring for commercial interiors

For commercial interiors where comfort underfoot or acoustic options are relevant, explore liquid vinyl comfort resin flooring. Explain the activities, pedestrian use, furniture or equipment and desired appearance.

Check the complete build-up and finish against the project requirements. A comfort floor and an industrial screed should not be specified as substitutes simply because both contain polyurethane.

Coatings, seals and specialist systems

Polyurethane coatings or seals may form part of a compatible surface treatment. Ask which substrate and underlying system they are intended for, and confirm preparation and application requirements. Avoid adding an unspecified concrete sealer or topcoat to a resin floor.

For vehicle decks, discuss the complete car park flooring system, including exposure, drainage and waterproofing requirements. Specialist performance needs should be addressed through the selected system specification.

Preparation and installation questions

Explain any old coatings, contamination, moisture concerns, cracks or movement. Review the proposed floor preparation, repairs and details before work begins. Confirm the product-specific application conditions and sequence.

Include preparation and curing in the programme and agree reopening requirements for pedestrians, equipment and cleaning. Our resin flooring installation guide covers the information to provide for an initial discussion.

Costs, maintenance and environmental requirements

The quotation depends on floor area, preparation, repairs, system build-up, detailing, access and phasing. Compare proposals on the same scope and clarify exclusions or provisional allowances.

Request cleaning and maintenance guidance for the selected finish. If your project includes environmental criteria, ask for the relevant product documentation and identify refurbishment options where applicable. General claims about low emissions or recycled content need evidence for the product being proposed.
