Planning a commercial resin flooring installation
A resin flooring installation should be planned around the existing substrate, the selected system and the way the premises operate. Assessment, preparation, application and curing all contribute to the programme. The floor should reopen only when the agreed requirements for its intended use have been met.
Ecoflor installs resin flooring for commercial and industrial premises. Request an installation quotation with the site postcode, floor area, photographs, operating conditions and preferred dates. We do not undertake domestic installations.
1. Define the floor’s requirements
Start with the activities the floor must accommodate. Describe pedestrian and vehicle traffic, equipment loads, process spills, cleaning, temperature exposure and any appearance requirements. Include drains, joints, edges and transitions to other finishes in the brief.
Review resin flooring options with the proposed use in mind. Ask for the complete system specification and relevant product evidence where grip, chemicals, hygiene or static control are project requirements.
2. Assess and prepare the substrate
Explain the existing floor’s condition and any known coating, moisture or contamination problems. A site assessment helps establish preparation and repair requirements. Clarify any provisional allowances before agreeing the work.
The proposed floor preparation should suit the substrate and selected resin system. Discuss removal of unsuitable finishes, surface profiling and necessary repairs. Agree how the installation area will be cleared and separated from nearby operations.
3. Confirm the construction and detailing
Ask the contractor to identify the primer, resin layers, thickness and finish being installed. Edges, joints, coving and drainage details should be addressed in the scope where applicable. A continuous-looking finish does not remove the need to consider joints or movement in the underlying construction.
Application sequence and intervals between layers depend on the selected products and site conditions. Follow the specified system requirements rather than treating every resin floor as the same installation.
4. Agree access, downtime and reopening
Include assessment, preparation, repairs, application and curing in the installation programme. Establish access routes, loading arrangements, working hours and responsibility for moving stock or equipment. If the business needs to remain operational, discuss whether phasing and separation are practical.
Ask when the floor can accept pedestrians, vehicles, equipment and its intended cleaning regime. These may have different requirements. Where time is limited, discuss fast-cure flooring options and their suitability for the whole project; the resin’s cure time is only part of the shutdown.
5. Handover and maintenance
Agree inspection and handover arrangements before installation starts. Request cleaning instructions, maintenance guidance and any warranty terms offered for the work. Identify who to contact if damage, wear or a change in operating conditions needs review.
Maintain the installed finish according to its product guidance. Discuss suitable cleaning equipment and chemicals, and arrange assessment of damage rather than applying an unspecified repair or sealer.
What affects the installation price?
Floor area is one factor. Existing condition, preparation, repairs, system build-up, detailing, access and phasing also affect scope. Send the same brief when comparing proposals and check what each price includes, excludes or leaves provisional.
