How durable is resin flooring compared with other finishes?
Resin flooring can be specified for demanding commercial and industrial use, but no material is the most durable choice for every site. Compare specific systems against traffic, loads, chemicals, cleaning and substrate condition. A general promise that resin will outlast tiles, vinyl or timber does not replace that assessment.
Ecoflor installs commercial and industrial flooring only. Discuss your flooring requirements with details of the site, floor area, existing condition and intended use.

What affects the durability of a resin floor?
Review the complete construction: the substrate, preparation, repairs, primer, resin layers and finish. Identify vehicle types, wheel traffic, turning points, equipment loads and likely impacts. Where chemicals, hot cleaning or moisture are involved, provide the exposure details for review against the proposed system’s information.
Durability includes how the floor performs in use and how it can be maintained. Agree what appearance changes are acceptable and distinguish cosmetic wear from damage requiring assessment. See our hard-wearing flooring guidance for points to include in the brief.
Compare alternatives on the same requirements
Resin, tile, vinyl, timber and polished concrete each include different specifications. Ask suppliers to address the same operating conditions, preparation scope and maintenance expectations. Use this checklist to make the comparison specific to your premises.

| Flooring option | Questions to ask before selection |
|---|---|
| Resin flooring | What build-up, thickness, preparation and exposure limits are specified? How will joints and repairs be treated? |
| Tile systems | How are the tiles, bedding and joints specified for loads, impacts, cleaning and repair? |
| Vinyl flooring | Is the product suitable for the expected traffic, equipment and cleaning? What are the requirements for seams and the substrate? |
| Timber flooring | What operating conditions, surface care and refurbishment programme does the selected construction require? |
| Polished concrete | Is the existing slab suitable? What appearance, joint treatment, protection and maintenance can be agreed? |
For a project where the concrete slab may be retained as the finish, compare polished concrete options with a proposed resin flooring system. Base the decision on the assessed floor and operating requirements.
Preparation and installation matter
Ask how existing coatings, contamination, moisture and damage will be assessed before work begins. Clarify the preparation methods and any repair allowances. Confirm the installation and curing requirements before agreeing a reopening date.
A specified finish is not a substitute for addressing an unsuitable substrate. Changes in use or loading should also be discussed rather than assumed to be covered by the original specification.

Lifespan and maintenance: ask for evidence
There is no single service life that applies to every resin floor. Ask what supports any lifespan expectation and what conditions it assumes. Check written warranty terms separately from general marketing statements.
Request cleaning and maintenance instructions for the selected finish. Agree how wear and damage will be reviewed, whether refurbishment is feasible and what disruption future work may require. Avoid comparing one floor’s maintained lifespan with another floor that has been neglected.
Compare costs over the planned period of use
Look beyond the installation total. Include preparation, repairs, cleaning, maintenance, possible refurbishment and operational downtime in your comparison. Use project-specific allowances rather than assuming resin always has the lowest long-term cost.

Request a commercial flooring assessment
Send the site postcode, approximate area, photographs and current floor condition, together with traffic, exposure and shutdown requirements. Ecoflor can discuss the relevant flooring options and the next steps for your project.
