Is Resin Flooring Cheaper Than Tiles

Resin flooring is not automatically cheaper than tiles. For a commercial or industrial project, the answer depends on the specified system, existing base, preparation, detailing and installation conditions. Compare complete installed quotations for the same operating requirements rather than generic material prices.

Ecoflor installs commercial and industrial flooring only. Request a resin flooring quotation with your postcode, approximate area, existing surface and intended use.

What affects the installed cost of resin flooring?

The proposed resin system, build-up and finish are part of the price. So are preparation, repairs, edges, joints and access arrangements. A straightforward open area and a space with multiple rooms, equipment bases or phased working may need different scopes even when their floor areas are similar.

Discuss epoxy flooring or polyurethane flooring against your operating conditions. The material name alone does not establish the appropriate specification or its price.

What should a tile quotation include?

Ask the tiling contractor to identify the tile product, base preparation, adhesive, grout, joints and installation details. Check whether removal of old finishes, repairs and transitions are included. Compare these items with the scope of the resin proposal.

Different tile products and layouts have different requirements. A quotation for one tiled finish does not establish the cost of every tile option.

Compare both proposals using the same brief

  • Use the same measured area and drawings.
  • Describe traffic, equipment, likely spills and cleaning requirements.
  • Identify existing coverings, defects and known moisture issues.
  • Specify appearance, edges, thresholds and other details.
  • Agree access, working hours, phasing and completion dates.
  • Check exclusions, provisional work and whether VAT is included.

Ask each contractor to explain assumptions that could change the final cost. A price per square metre is only useful when the associated scope is clear.

Consider maintenance and future repairs

Request the care instructions for each proposed finish and estimate cleaning resources using the same operating assumptions. Discuss how local damage would be assessed and repaired, including access and downtime.

Do not assume that every resin floor needs less maintenance or lasts longer than every tiled floor. Evaluate the specific systems, their intended use and the supporting information provided.

Include downtime in the decision

Preparation, installation and return to service can affect production, stock movements or access. Ask when each proposed floor can accept the intended traffic and cleaning. Agree how adjoining areas and completed work will be protected.

Does a cheaper quote offer better value?

It may, but first confirm that it meets the same requirements and includes the same work. Missing preparation, different finish specifications or unpriced repairs can make a headline comparison misleading. Ask for clarification before choosing on price alone.
