When Edinburgh’s premier cinema, leisure and entertainment complex was being constructed, Sir Robert McAlpine Construction turned to resin terrazzo experts Ecoflor to design and install the bespoke multi-coloured main venue floor layout. Weight was an issue due to the basement car park levels under the main venue so a thin section epoxy terrazzo was selected.
Using a four colour epoxy resin terrazzo layout initially laid out in prisms created using temporary trims rather than permanent visible trims, Ecoflor installed each colour and carefully diamond saw cut edges to create sharp, distinct transitions to neighbouring colours in the design.
Finally, once the laying was complete, the floor was diamond ground and polished to create a visually stunning, exposed micro-aggregate terrazzo capable of withstanding the high footfall the centre has experienced since its opening.
